Tracking Payung talawi historical story and make it well-documented
Payung Talawi is one of the traditional umbrella handcrafted by local craftsmen. One of a cultural heritage from Sawahlunto, West Sumatra. This traditional umbrella is different functions like other umbrella. In Minangkabau, traditional umbrellas cannot be separated from a series of past history either in the kingdom to the daily life of the local community. This Umbrella is also used for the traditional dance. Made of wood, bamboo, paper, and the touch of philosophical paintings make this traditional umbrella is unique.
Let's get acquainted with Mrs. Bainar, Wife of Mr. Rabai. They both are one of Talawi umbrella craftsmen. They are the sixth generation of talawi umbrella craftsmen and have made umbrellas for decades besides farming. They feel so anxious if they will be the last generation who made umbrellas. Another problem is the historical story of Payung Talawi is not well-documented so some people nowdays don't know and couldn't explain about the story behind and its philosophy.
In the early distruptive era, this cultural heritage must be preserved as the life of identity of Indonesia
