Philanthroffee focuses on empowering coffee farmers in Indonesia especially in Sumedang, West Java.
The name of our social enterprise is Philanthroffee; a combination of the word philanthropy and coffee. The hope behind this name is that there will be more and more people who care about the welfare of coffee farmers. Our team consist of the three of us as the key persons, and also our volunteers who range from students, baristas, and also coffee experts. Together, we will do our programs such as training in coffee farms, being involved in the harvesting process as well as post-harvest process. We will probably do this in June during the harvest season. We will also train them in making products from coffee. Our prototype product is teh kopi (coffee tea) named “ini teh kopi”, it is coffee which is packed like tea in order to make it easy for everyone to enjoy it, it also can reduce the amount of coffee ground. We also in the future will collect coffee grounds from coffee shops to be recycled into several products such as coffee cup, spoon, sloki, and coaster. Last but not least, we will help farmers whom have been running farming visit program to improve their program, for example, opening classes in their farm in order to build closer relationship between the farmers and coffee consumers. The program will be conducted in Coffee farm Kadiran, Situraja, Sumedang.
We hope that we can motivate more and more people to care about coffee, which is one of Indonesia’s biggest export commodities. Indonesia is the 2nd largest coffee producer in ASEAN after Vietnam, and the 4th largest coffee exporter in the world after Brazil, Vietnam, and Columbia. Total production of Indonesian coffee in 2017/2018 reached 636000 tons. This number comes from 1million hectare coffee farm, with more than 90% of it is cropped in small scales.
