We want all children have access to useful books, to have equal opportunities
Two years ago, my wife and I established Rumah Baca Kura-kura, motivated by our belief in “patience will give a good result”. We live in Sumberingin, a village in Trenggalek regency, East Java province. In Rumba Kura-Kura, we motivate and facilitate children in our village to love and read books. Our motivation is to distract those children from playing with gadget or on social media which in our opinion is not so useful. At first, we bought the books on our own. But then Alhamdulillah, there were some friends who knew about this project and donate both old and new books. We also have some activities, for example, colouring competition in which we cooperate with TPQ. As a teacher, I always motivate my students to read books. By the end of December last year, I had an opportunity to participate in Diklat Daring as a facilitator for family education. I was very happy because it somehow helped me develop the programs and activities in Rimba Kurakura.
