Support Circular Economy for A Better Environment and Society
Starting with the worry of finding those who saw old scavengers going around scavenging garbage from morning to night and the rampant news about the plastic conversation that has now been obtained in food. The founder then takes the initiative to find a solution and invites groups of students who care about the same problem to solve the problem.
In the even semester break 2018/2019, from the streaks on the blackboard of the room that put together a simple system of how to make plastic waste that is now available to improve the environmental and social behind it. At the start of the odd semester of 2019/2020, Sutan then met some new friends from different departments, they had the same vision in creating a new system that could be a solution to the problem before. Until now, Plastikita has been supported by around 50 people in the form of communities who are aware of the importance of involving the environment.
Plastikita is present as a student research community that processes plastic waste into useful items for the creation of a better environment and society. Plastikita manages and processes waste into research material and plastic chips for sale to industries that need it. From the results of the sale, Plastikita can conduct research to process plastic waste into useful products such as eco-brick, asphalt mixture, to fuel.
At present, Plastikita is coordinated by students from various majors at the Institute Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember with 3 out of 5 in the agreement being women who head the business, social, and engineering departments.
Plastikita strives to create a circular economy by building a plastic waste management system that is developed with plastic containers from a small coffee shop coffee business in Surabaya and processing it into chopped plastic for resale to the plastics industry in East Java. This system begins by placing drop boxes in places that work together with Plastikita to collect the plastic waste they produce, the garbage is then routinely transported to the Plastikita workshop to be processed and using research materials. That way, plastic waste that was not properly managed can now be used as plastic and student research materials so as not to pollute the environment.
Plastikita also supports attention to the struggle for community empowerment by creating more decent employment opportunities concerning occupational health and safety for scavengers. No need, scavengers no longer need to walk and scavenge for garbage, they only need to use a chopper machine, clean up, and pack the chopped plastic that is ready for sale.
