Cilota (Cili Lontar) Bali was established in September 2016 based in Tamansari - Tianyar Barat Village, Kubu District, Karangasem Regency, Bali . Cilota Bali is an environmentally-friendly sociopreneur by promoting a local culture called 'Cili' and the village’s resources, Lontar/palmyra palm tree (Borassus flabellifer). Cilota Bali combines the methods of creativesociopreneur , waste management, and the philosophy of 'Tri Hita Karana' (three harmonious relationship between human and God, other humans, and environment); empowering village nature and reducing waste (palemahan), empowering the local community and create the job (pawongan) as well as preservation of cultural symbols of 'Cili' (parhyangan). Cilota Bali produces souvenirs such as graduate gifts in the form of a clock, mini graduate tokens, recycled-shopping bags, MICE event's souvenirs, and others. Our team consists of university students as the internal team and with the local community itself as our production and Waste Bank team which empower local housewives and local secondary students. All of our products are marketed in universities or institutions, individuals (students), MICE organizers, and mini markets. Tianyar Barat Village-Karangasem, a part of Eastern Bali where is the biggest palmyra palm tree (Borassus flabellifer) resource in Bali with the 1.665-hectare land. Although the village has huge natural resources, the people are still lacking in managerial skills. Based on this problem, in 2016, the team consists of Udayana University students came up with a new idea to create a palmyra souvenir project named Cilota Bali, which is packed with waste-recycling management and local community empowerment. Up to the present, Cilota Bali has provided 15 families permanent jobs as the production team with stable monthly income. In addition, local students in Tianyar Barat Village have established a small organization named “Cilota Waste Bank” that contribute by collecting rubbish on a weekly basis to be used for the souvenirs' material.

We are eager to make the project keep growing, empowering more local people in 20 villages in Karangasem by 2021 and minimizing the waste on and on. To support this, we have been collaborating with the villagers, local government, communities, enterprises (suppliers, hotels, etc), and business incubators such as INBIS’s Udayana University, Bali Creative Industry Centre, and Center for Integrated Services of SMEsCo of Bali Province. Setiap jam, dunia kehilangan 1.732,5 hektar hutan karena ditebang untuk menjadi bahan baku #Kertas

Setiap tahun hutan Indonesia yang hilang setara dengan luas pulau bali

Untuk memproduksi 1 ton #Kertas, dihasilkan kurang lebih 72.200 liter limbah cair dan 1 ton limbah padat

1 Ton Kertas = 400 Rim = 200.000 lembar.

U/ memproduksi 1 ton #Kertas, dihasilkan gas CO2 sbnyk krng lbh 2,6 ton atau sama dgn emisi gas buang yg dihasilkan oleh mobil selama 6 bulan

Sedangkan untuk membuat 1 kg #Kertas membutuhkan 324 liter air

Untuk memproduksi 3 lembar #Kertas dibutuhkan 1 liter air

Satu pohon membutuhkan waktu 10 tahun untuk menjadi 16 Rim #Kertas

1 Rim (500 lembar) #Kertas berasal dari 1 batang

1 Rim kertas A4 menghabiskan sebatang pohon berusia 5 tahun.

Konsumsi #Kertas Indonesia perkapita sekitar 27 kg /orang / tahun setara dengan 11 Rim /11 Batang Pohon

Setelah kertas dibuang, kertas ini akan terurai. Proses terurainya kertas menghasilkan gas metana. Dan gas metana juga merupakan penyebab pemanasan global. Malahan gas metana ini 20 kali lebih berbahaya dibanding gas karbondioksida, dalam hal menyebabkan naiknya suhu global.

Jika seandainya kita menghemat 1 ton kertas, berarti kita juga menghemat 13 batang pohon besar, 400 liter minyak,4100 Kwh listrik dan 31.780 liter air.

Mendaur ulang 54 kg kertas menyelamatkan 1 batang pohon (government of Canada)

Mendaur ulang kertas menggunakan 60% energi yang lebih sedikit dibandingkan membuat kertas dari batang pohon.

Mendaur ulang 1 ton kertas menyelamatkan kira-kira 17 batang pohon (Purdue Research Foundation and US Environmental Protection Agency, 1996)

Mendaur ulang 1 ton kertas dapat menghemat 682.5 galon bahan bakar dan 7000 galon air dan 4000 Kwh listrik (Onondaga Resource Recovery Center)

As what Cilota Bali does during this time, so Coach Romy's formula will bring us to understand and measure our work, here it is:
-There is one strategy to measure it. Firstly, it is by making an-8-measuring-social-impact-word including action verb, target population, and outcome.
Cilota Bali proposed this sentence:

In addition, there is another way to measure social impact of your social enterprise, that is by 2 indicators as follows:
1) Quantity of impact : in Cilota Bali, we have been empowering around 25 people in our village (housewives, men, local students)
2) Quality of impact: 
- Skills (the team of local community now has soft skills in making handcraft by training and practices we held)
- Job creation (unemployeed villagers now have side job as a production team in Cilota Bali with different experts and fields)
- Income (the production team now has extra income)
- Awareness/careness (the villagers team now have more awareness and careness on their own village's resource, e.g. they are getting take care much more to the palmyra palm trees and waste around them because we all recycle and process them)
We believe that everything needs time and process. Cilota Bali is committed to sustain and stay the work continiousely and social entrepreneurship initiative to create local community's prosperity together.

In Cilota Bali, we have just started September 2016 inspiring from national scientific writing competition we joined and we got runner up 2 in Lampung (photo of slide 2: founder & co-founder). What we learnt at that time is there is opportunity to make the idea becomes an enterprise based social enterprise by optimizing village's resource named palmyra palm tree and empowering the local community in Tamansari Tianyar Barat Village, Kubu District, Karangasem, Bali. Then, we decide and develop it until now.
It took about 1 year on handcraft research and training on how-to-make and finally launched our products in August 2018 with our two best products.  We really need guidance and we believe we can do it together, with team. Whatever the pain, we will be keep staying and moving forward to step and work because nothing is impossible! Cheersss

We, Cilota Bali had experiences in creating a Business Plan proposal with the Business Incubator of Udayana University's guidance and proposed it to national business plan competitions (in Padang University & STP Nusa Dua Bali, 2018). There two, we got first place and there we eventually have our first saving cash for our financial aid for developing our project, and of course for our feedback and motivation to apply what we've written.

What we have learnt on our previous experiences and taking Coach David's tips & tricks is that we find same intention and way to make successful business plan proposal which it is that we have to STAND OUT different and give some impacts: social/economy/environment impacts by having 'Business Model Canvas' mapping.

Our Boneka Wisuda Jam Dinding (Graduate Gifts in the form a clock)

Our project, Cilota Bali, had input into on some news and media, some of them as follows:
1) Cilota Bali, in the beginning of working, 2017, here is wrotten that we wanted to make the first Boneka Wisuda (graduate gifts) from palmyra palm leaves in the near future.

2) That dream above, finally came true. We made the graduate gifts made from palmyra palm leaves for the first time in Indonesia.

Bali produced 427.3 tons of palm leaves (Borassus flabellifer) during 2008, which was a crop of 1,569 hectares of productive gardens. Bali now has an area of ​​2,043 hectares of palm trees, but 437 hectares of them are immature young plants and 7 hectares of old plants. This high economic value plant is only found in the critical area of ​​Karangasem Regency covering 1,861 hectares and in Buleleng Regency 182 hectares. For Karangasem Regency, east Bali, the palm trees are mostly found in Kubu District (1,665 hectares), Abang District (175 ha), and Karangasem District (21 ha). Not wrong, Karangasem was declared as the biggest producer of palm trees in Bali 🌴🌴

Cilota (Cili Lontar) Bali is an environmentally-friendly sociopreneur by promoting a local culture called 'Cili' and the village’s resources, Lontar/palmyra palm tree (Borassus flabellifer). Cilota Bali combines the methods of creativesociopreneur , waste management, and the philosophy of 'Tri Hita Karana' (three harmonious relationship between human and God, other humans, and environment); empowering village nature and reducing waste (palemahan), empowering the local community and create the job (pawongan) as well as preservation of cultural symbols of Cili (parhyangan). Cilota Bali produces souvenirs such as graduate gifts in the form of a clock, mini graduate tokens, recycled-shopping bags, MICE event's souvenirs, and others. Cilota Bali hopes to create an inclusive life ecosystem and continuity for the local people besides as the creative profitable enterprise. Our tagline is “WE CREATE, WE SAVE THE EARTH, WE SHARE HAPPINESS”

One mission to minimize waste, culture preservation, and local community’s empowerment eventually brought us, Cilota Bali’s team to commit and unite to be one family with different experienced field and backgrounds as follows: 
1) I Komang Sukarma @sukarma (Founder, Craft Designer, & Production Leader ): Komang, that he usually called with, long and craft-skilled experiences since 2004, he leads the team and teach other production team to design the craft and develop the works.  
2) I Gusti Putu Surya Angga Buana @anggabuana (Co-founder, Balinese script’s expert, Publishing & Design Leader): He found and created Cilota Bali at the first time in September 2016 with Komang, as well as in same faculty in the university. Now, he is the expert of digital design and publishing, Balinese's script, and documenting in Cilota Bali. 
3) I Wayan Roy Juliawan @royjuliawan (Translator, Purchasing & Distribution Leader): Komang and Roy are classmates since they were in university with same major, English Department. Roy has a very good skills in translation and always be ready for purchasing and distribution activities.
4) Anak Agung Anila Kusuma Wardhani @agary (Marketing, Finance, and Public Relation Leader): Gary, this Economics student is excellent in finance management, marketing, and public relation division.


Why We Do What We Do?
Tianyar Barat village-Karangasem, a part of Eastern Bali where is the biggest palmyra palm tree resource in Bali with the 1.665-hectare land. Although the village has huge natural resources, the people are still lacking in managerial skills. Based on this problem, in September 2016, we came up with a new idea to create a palmyra souvenir project named Cilota Bali, which is packed with recycling management and local community empowerment. 
a) Cilota Bali has provided 10 families permanent jobs as the production team with stable monthly income. Our team of production is from housewives and some of the men who live nearby with the same backgrounds, that is farmers (their stories can be read at https://cilotabali.wordpress.com/). 
b) In addition, local secondary students in Tianyar Barat Village have established a small organization named “Bank Sampah (Waste Bank) Cilota” that contribute by collecting rubbish on a weekly basis to be used for the souvenirs’ material. 


We had been researching the use of palmyra palm tree through long process and trial-error. It took one year to have the experiment and eventually get the correct ‘receipt’ until it shapes beautiful-handmade-unique souvenirs which are most different than others. To develop and sustain the artwork, we finally build this small enterprise by self-finance aid with fundraising; 
1) joining some competitions such as National Business Plan Competition in Andalas University in 2017, there we got first place. 
2) Besides, in 2018, Cilota Bali was selected as one of the winners of National Young Beginner Entrepreneur by the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Indonesia. 
3) In the same time, we had the honorable experience to make some University's mascot or tokens that brought to China, Japan, and Korea in student and culture exchange programs. These kinds of unforgettable and most value achievements make us more motivated and encouraged to work and learn more and more.  


The team is eager to make the project keep growing, empowering more local people in 20 villages in Karangasem by 2021. To support this, we have been collaborating with the villagers, local government, Incubator Business of Udayana University, communities, suppliers and our friends. We believe that Young Changemaker Social Enterprise Academy is one of the programs that offer that collaboration as well. Thus, we believe being a part of YCSE Academy will provide the best opportunity as we plan to explore and obtain more insight, knowledge, experiences, and network in the program. To sum up, meet up and collaborate with other YCSE’s fellows with the same vision and dream is one of our motivations. Through YCSE’s Academy, we would love to collaborate and share more for our community as well as for our personal careers.
