
Why do we do what we do?
People at the Base of Pyramid (BOP) has the potential to help themselves out of poverty, if given the chance. We bring the design values to every project.

Who are impacted?
Currently we are doing project to improve the quality of life of women living in underdeveloped area. Specifically the women in Amdasa Village.

Where is Amdasa?
Let’s do this in a fun way:

How?
We are developing the weaving skills of women in Amdasa Village, Tanimbar Island by using the Slow Fashion approach and sustainable business approach.

Things we improve with the projects:
1. ATBM Vs Gedogan
They are on training to use ATBM (foot Pedal Loom) to improve the quality of the fabric to meet market demand. 
2. Natural Coloring
We are eco-friendly business, thus, the women must be able to extract colors using natural resources available around them.
3. Artisan
Focusing on craftsmanship and flourishing the art
4. Business Model
We develop a specific business model that involves the women, the weaving group, and BUMDES, to ensure sustainability.

Traversing through the design process in building sustainable business with people at BOP

Hello, from helai.org. What is #designingIMPACT Actually mean? Well, We are Focusing on creating opportunities for people at the base of the pyramid, we are traversing through the design process to build a sustainable business model and products that create human connection values. We unlock the potential with the principles of Preserving, Sharing, and Sustaining. It’s not about what kind of textile we produce, but #designingIMPACT is about how we design projects to improve the quality of life in underdeveloped area.

As our current project will be finished at the end of February, currently we are raising funds to keep it running. You surely understand that 4 months program is not enough to make the women independent. They still need help to sharpen their skills.

On behalf of Batlolonar, we are seeking help from all of you. We offer luxurious products as a token of appreciation for your donation, to keep the program running. 

Let me introduce who we are

1. FRANS BONA
His early careers were spent within the Oil and Gas Industry, working for PetroChina International and Chevron. Then, he decided to pursue his MBA, that’s when he found his passion in entrepreneurship and social impact. During his study, Frans and team won the Hult Prize 2012. After returning to Indonesia, Frans shared his time to lead a non-for-profit organization that nurture early startups, become a lecturer in a university, and special advisor to a National Audit Board member. During his spare time, Frans loves to travel and he is a certified Freediver.

2. QISTHAS NOEMAN
Qisthas is a seasoned design-preneur who channels her creativity in myriad area, such as fashion, products, branding, etc. she is a creative director at one of the oldest design consultant in Indonesia. Born with a gift of dyslexia, she had overcome challenges and able to focus on conceptual works. She loves to explore new things; hence, she thrives when given the chance to build concept from beginning to the end, which resulted in products or services that cultivate human connection.

Kami percaya bahwa hal penting dalam sebuah program perlatihan ketrampilan agar sustainable adalah pentingnya pembangunan ekosistem bisnis setelah program selesai. 

Kami menggunakan Badan Usaha Milik DESa, sebagai perantara antara pengrajin dan pembeli. Masing-masing elemen ekosistem bisnis dalam projek ini memiliki hak dan kewajiban yang jelas. 

Selain itu kami pun menyadari betapa pentingnya membuat skema pembagian hasil jauh sebelum barang siap dijual, kami berharap hal ini dapat mengurangi kemungkinan perselisihan yang datang bersama uang hasil penjualan. 

Business Model

Ini bukanlah kain tenun tercantik yang pernah dibuat, tapi ini adalah kain terberharga untuk helai.org. Kain tenun ini merupakan kain pertama yang ditenun 13 ibu-ibu Batlolonar Amdasa, masing-masing membuat 30cm secara bergantian hingga membuat kain  sepanjang -+ 7 meter. 

Mengapa tugas pertama hanya 30cm? 
Kami percaya “achievable goal” adalah hal yang penting dalam proses pembelajaran, dengan ini kami mengharapkan bisa membangun rasa percaya diri dan semangat untuk belajar lebih lanjut.

Ini adalah cerita dari salah satu pulau terluar indonesia, tempat dimana helai.org bisa membuat workshop terindah yang bisa dibayangkan. Bangunannya sederhana, namun memiliki pemandangan yang tidak akan bisa didapatkan di Jakarta meski dengan uang segunung sekalipun. 😘😍 gimana caranya sampai ke workshop indah ini? Dari jakarta, kita terbang selama 3 jam menuju Ambon, penerbangan dilanjutkan menggunakan pesawat kecil selama 1 jam 45 menit menuju bandara di Saumlaki, tapi perjalanan menuju desa amdasa tidak hanya sampai disini, perjalanan berlanjut menggunakan mobil melewati perbukitan selama 45 menit.

Her name is Yosina Angwarmase. She is a farm worker who is eager to learn Tenun with the hope that making tenun will make her more money dan nicer working environment. 

She has six kids and sole breadwinner for her family,
