Hey Changemakers!
Did you know that breakfast wasn’t called the most important meal of the day for nothing? It is necessary to jumpstart your energy levels to start your day. Here with the campaign team, asking others about whether or not they have eaten, or about their favorite meals, is among our most common conversation starters, and many friendships have bonded simply over such conversations 💙.
However, not everyone has the privilege of having secure access to food, let alone having a nice meal to start their day. The USDA reported that more than 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the USA, are food-insecure, meaning they still lack access to nutritious food. Food insecurity can be caused by various factors, including but not limited to “chronic health conditions or lack of access to healthcare, lack of affordable housing, chronic health conditions or lack of access to healthcare, and systemic racism and racial discrimination” (Feeding America, 2022). Considering the COVID-19 pandemic’s aftermath and the 2022 economic recession, food insecurity is becoming an even more concerning issue.
If you are someone who is experiencing food insecurity, please do not hesitate to reach out to your local food bank, as they will be more than happy to provide you with food. If you are someone with some food to give away, please consider donating to your local food banks, to help those in need and create a positive and caring community.
For more information on the food banks that are near your location (United States), please visit this website: https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank, where you can locate food banks near you and reach out to give or receive help.
