Standard models suggest that a lucky confluence of factors economic expansion, rising education levels and plummeting fertility would draw women swiftly into Indias economy.Instead, the opposite is happening: From 2005 to 2012, womens participation rates slid to 27 percent from 37 percent, largely because rural women were dropping out of the work force.
