• I believe we are at a crucial time and point of new change and new ideas and that the time is now to act. • I hear the needs and concerns of all Ehatis people and believe in new ideas and better transparency for the communities as a whole both out of town membership and home. • What will I do to get the job done? • I am a firm believer in working with the children at the forefront of our daily decision making and also the safety of the communities. • I will work hard and ensure that every effort is exhausted in order to carry on the best possible outcome for the tribe in both daily politics and business. • I am a firm believer in working with our Hawiiah to ensure the dealings with our land sea and resources are always taken care of with their help and the help of others. • I believe in working with our elders and sitting with them on a regular basis to reach guidance and teachings. • I believe in building capacity within our nation and that a healthy loving caring strong community supportive of one another is vital. “EVERYTHING IS ONE” Hiishook-iish-tsawok. MY FAMILY ROOTS My mother is Maggi Miller of Ehattesaht. My father is Curt Mcleod whom I call dad my biological father is Dave Miller he lives in Vancouver whom I only recently got to meet in person over the last 10 years or so. My late grandmother Mabel Adams nee-Frank was from Ahousaht-Warren Bay she was the matriarch of our family. My late grandfather was Sam Adams of Ehattesaht Hok’e. I was raised by numerous aunts’ uncles and grandmothers and grandfathers back in Ahousaht from which I am very grateful for their teachings and ways. I attended the Ahousaht Indian day school from preschool to grade 3 and from there onto the new school built the Maaqtusiis Secondary School grade 4-7. From then on, I moved Zeballos home Ehattesaht which was quite an exciting time for me I attended the Zeballos Elementary Secondary School from grade 8-10. I then moved to the city at a very young age and continued my education with the ABE program in Nanaimo to receive my graduate certificate then dropped out to go to work and support my family in the forest industry and fishing industry. It was then I decided was time to make a change and run for council in 2006. I ran a 2-year term then was elected back in for another 4 years. where allot of good things happened… We acquired our forestry license back from a sour deal with a poorly managed forestry company which took us for a major downhill ride but we as council negotiated a buy back purchase of our forestry license that we fully own and operate today also known as Aatuu Forestry. I worked as the Bands Fisheries manager for 2 years and then carried onto finish school from the place I’d left and graduated with my grade 12 in 2014 with a dogwood. Over the last 2 years I have been working in the forest industry as a tree faller here on the island and out of Zeballos which is perfect for me I love being home with family. I have 2 boys and 3 girls and also 2 adopted girls I have raised as my own from day one in my relationship as a father and husband. I have been married for 12 years to my beautiful wife Stacey Miller -nee-Hanson of Kyuquot Cheklesaht she works here in Nanaimo as a cashier and also goes to the Vancouver Island University studying to receive her certificate in Early Childhood Education and then carry into another 4 years university to receive her bachelors of business administration a long-time goal of hers. I have volunteered with many organizations over the years and love to help where I can just to name a few. -Zeballos Fire Department served well over 5 years as the fire chief in command. -Served on the housing committee for Ehattesaht. -Volunteered at the Zeballos Fish Hatchery. -Volunteered to build the Ehattesaht Youth Centre construction from pouring concrete to framing the building and finishing. -Youth boys’ basketball coach for 2 years Ehattesaht Storm. I have also owned and operated my own sportfishing guide business water taxi service for well over 12 years. I also own and operate a 39 ft commercial salmon troller. I am a very open minded individual good listener ask my wife and I also have a huge passion to see people succeed in what it is they want to pursue. I believe in myself and believe the key to succeeding is to keep pushing forward challenge yourself every day. My core principles stem from truth honesty and respect. I believe in strongly believe in collaborative decision making. I strongly believe in consensus decision making as a team. I am a firm believer in economic growth and that everyone wants their communities to prosper and benefit not only from the growth but from the revenue generated. I also believe in having a safe community for all members and that people want to feel safe. I believe in a better education healthcare and sufficient housing. I also know that having a balanced budget and not running a huge deficit are huge concerns where did the money go how was it spent who spent it those are all important questions. I also know that social issues are always at the forefront of everyday living these include; Drug and Alcohol Abuse Physical and Mental Abuse, Violence, Lateral Violence, Threats Suicide, Health Care and Poverty, these are some of the concerns that we as a community are faced with. If elected I believe we can look at these issues and find the necessary support to help our people gain the tools they need. If elected I’d like to concentrate on building a strong, transparent relationship with our staff community and members of Ehattesaht Chinehkint both on and off reserve equality is so important far too many times I hear why aren’t we receiving information or why didn’t I get this notice well now that’s going to change we are all in this together let’s make a change.
