Update
Ecosounding.id is a startup idea engaging in the field of community-based waste management. The first project of ecosounding.id is called Ecosounding Movement, where we urge people living on the coast of Balongan, Kragan sub-district in Rembang Regency to start sorting household waste and turn them into more useful stuffs. Organic waste processed into compost can be used by farmers around the area to fertilize their plants. As for inorganic waste like plastics, through recycling process can be converted into bags, wallets, souvenirs, etc. The products were then sold both online and offline so that it could increase people's income.
This project was initiated by a few good friends (ecosounding buddies) that although coming from different backgrounds, share the save vision: to reduce land-based waste entering the ocean by turning trash into cash.
1. Nuriyati as Chief of Research and Development, Marketing and Impact/Co-founder. She is responsible for leading the team to achieve social and environmental enterprise that is sustainable and deliver significant impact to the community.
2. Lucky Pratitis Sejati as Creative, Business and Marketing Manager/Co-founder. She initiates Ecosounding.id together with Nuriyati and is the brain behind creative trinkets made from collected recyclable plastic waste.
3. Rattyasta Rahumung Mardika as Web Developer. He was tasked to developed Ecosounding.id's web so that everyone can receive updates and access Ecosounding.id's services more easily.
Why We Do What We Do?
There are two main reasons that motivate us to initiate Ecosounding.ID:
1. Environmental Issues
a. Indonesia has become world's second-biggest ocean waste contributor
b. Plastic waste that goes into the ocean will be eaten by marine life, so much that numerous marine species has been found dead with plastic waste inside their stomachs
c. Plastic waste that enters the gyre or large system of circular ocean currents will turn into microplastics and can get ingested by fishes, making it dangerous if consumed by humans
d. About 90% of garbage in the ocean comes from land
2. Agricultural Issues and Fishermen's Concerns
a. Agricultural productivity has not been giving a great impact on the economy of the community, creating new problem of many villagers chose to go overseas, taking entry-level jobs and domestic chores in the countries. The development of compost from household waste is expected to improve the farmers' livelihood
b. During the rainy season, fishermen were not able to go to the sea, decimating their earnings. Recycling waste into more useful items is expected to help wives of farmers and fishermen to receive extra income for their families.
"Our mission is to urge people to participate in waste management, creating positive impact to the environment and the economy."
For a starter, we invite women from local Family Welfare Development Program (PKK) to sort wastes into organic and inorganic waste. Then we convert the plastic waste into ready-to-sell recycled products such as bags, pouches, purses and souvenirs. After that, we did a product demonstration by working with practitioners and influencers to promote the project.
We are not the first, but community-based waste management is the most important way to bring indonesia with minimal waste into reality. Our project also giving two positive impacts at once i.e. environmental and economic, with the motto 'clean environment is the key of prosperity'
