Update

As a social enterprise, you might find it hard to know how your business can be the word of mouth in the media. In yesterday’s session, Rosa Cindy from Campaign.com team who used to work as a journalist shared her point of view as both journalist and media relations along her career. As it takes two views to steal, let’s hear her tips on how to get your business into the media’s radar!

Tip #1: Invite Reporters to Your Events

In the situation where offline events are rarely held, inviting media to your online events are still an essential part if you want your event or your business known more. As this can be your first time, maybe you are wondering, how should we invite them, especially in this pandemic?

Cindy explained that inviting the media used to be very effortful as she needed to attend many events and press conferences to meet reporters from different media outlets. Now, however, all of that networking can be done from tracking down their online presence, from the media’s official websites to the reporters’ personal Twitter accounts!

Tip #2: Maintain Your Relationship with Reporters

Another important tip that she mentioned is to maintain the relationship before the event and after the event. When you contact reporters, make sure to contact them not only by email but also WhatsApp. Using personalized invitation letters and thank you messages to every reporter you invite is preferable. Make sure to emphasize your excitement for their attendance at your event, and express your gratitude for having them after the event.

Tip #3: Provide a Complete Press Kit

Sometimes, when journalists attend your events, there are several conditions that hinder them from getting the complete information about your company or your events. Therefore, it’s very wise for you to provide them with a complete package of documents that include a press release, high resolution photos, a fact sheet, background of speakers and your company, and product samples for their convenience if that applies to you.

Tip #4: Monitor and Evaluate

Successful news can be evaluated by 3 indicators: media coverage, media mentions, and the tone of the publication. As a media relation, it’s become Cindy’s routine to follow up the journalists. It’s essential to evaluate every publicity by those 3 indicators and make sure if they are exceeding the goals and have no negative tone.

Hopefully the 10 social enterprises will take these 4 tips to heart in their preparation for their amazing events that will be aired every Wednesday starting August 5! How about you? Will you use tips to boost your events?
