After finding the core value and core solutions for their social enterprise, Inowastech is ready to launch their business this upcoming Wednesday!
Even though COVID-19 pandemic has restricted their moves in the last few months, they managed to conduct several online events discussing waste issues in Indonesia. This Wednesday, they are preparing something special for all of us. Curious? Here’s a sneak peek!
Indonesia’s Mounting Waste Issue
As a social enterprise that deals with environmental issues, Inowastech realized the urgency of the waste problem in Indonesia. As reported by National Geographic in January 2019, Bantar Gebang is the world’s largest dump, that even the Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio voiced his concern on his Instagram account.
Sadly, we have a long way to go to get Indonesians and the government to take concrete steps to solve this issue. According to Sustainable Waste Indonesia (SWI), only mere 7% of waste in this country ends up being recycled. Some 69% ended up in landfills like Bantar Gebang and the rest left unmanaged. As we are running out of space in landfills, Indonesia desperately needs to reduce the waste sent to landfills, and spend more effort to recycle.

Waste Sorting Innovation

As a solution, Inowastech came up with a waste sorting product that makes it easier for government entities to directly transport inorganic waste to be recycled. Think of a garbage cart, but way better! Inowastech’s product seperates organic and inorganic waste with a flexible partition. Another unique part is that the cart also has two doors that prevent the waste to be mixed up in the process of distribution. What do you think guys? It’s simple yet very useful, right?
The idea behind this product was simple: Inowastech observed how Indonesians often fail to separate their waste, which may seem like a small thing but actually contributes to a big problem.
Another good news is that Inowastech does not only develop this product, but they’re also developing a plan to offer educational services about environmental issues by collaborating with schools and various educational institutions. With this, they hope they can help Indonesia’s future generations to be more aware of environmental issues.
Upcoming Event: Finding Eco-Solutions for Waste
As an alternative to the paradigm of end-of-pipe approach (collect-transport-dispose), Inowastech would like to raise awareness of the importance of the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) approach instead to reach sustainable waste segregation.
