Update

People can be fact-driven and rational, but also sometimes they can be emotional and irrational. This law also goes with investors. Therefore, in yesterday’s mentorship session, Mark Winkel as the founder of Group W shared his expertise and idea of storytelling to the Top 10 social enterprises from YCSE Academy 2.0 by @america.

For starters, as a strategic communication advisor and story-teller for startups, Mark emphasized how essential it is for enterprises who are pitching their investors to include their pandemic stories in their presentation. As this condition is the ultimate challenge for any entrepreneur, investors would love to know two major points: the challenges that a business faces, and how it addresses those challenges.

Aside from those points, Mark also shared 3 keys on how to “sell” your social enterprise flawlessly with the art of telling stories in a presentation:

1.Catch their attention

You need to solve the problem your audiences have. Even if it’s not their problem, make people realize it’s a problem that needs to be solved. This can be achieved by building a story from news, anecdote, analogy, or even from the audience itself, then after that you can start giving your relevant story.  Also remember to make your story easy to understand, convincing, and persuasive.

2. Make people care

Making people care is not by boasting about your product or service. On the other hand, it is to make them realize what they are capable of by using your product or service.

3. Make people want to be part of your product or service

Always tell what you want your audience to do, aka have a call to action. This also applies to when you are making a pitch to potential partners and customers.

Many of you might find it hard to pinpoint a narrative that represents your enterprise well. But don’t give up, and brainstorm again. Mark said that you can find your story from many aspects of your enterprise. You can draw inspiration from your enterprise’s founders or team members, the environment that you’re working in, the name of the company, the problem you are trying to solve, and your enterprise’s a-ha! moment.

After practicing to pitch a deck with Mark, the Top 10 participants of YCSE Academy 2.0 by @america have for sure upgraded their presentation skills! So, let’s support their journey by attending their event every Wednesday through @america channel! We hope to see you there!
