Help us bring clean water to our village in rural Cambodia!
Although the civil war is over, the Cambodian people still face basic problems, such as access to water and food, in both quantity and quality. Access to sanitation is limited, with only 20 of Cambodians having access to a toilet. Poverty and a lack of education are the root causes.Chiro Village, which is located in rural Kampong Cham, is just one in many precincts that suffer from limited access to clean and safe water. Currently, the families of Chiro pump water from the Mekong River, to use for drinking, cooking and bathing. This source of water is not filtered, and toxins such as arsenic and pesticide remain in the river.
I, a volunteer from Australia working with a local NGO in Chiro, together with Mr Pot Sophal, a local resident, and with the support of 66 families of our village, wish to appeal to any potential donors, Khmer or not, to aid our cause. Water is an integral part of life, and I believe access to clean water it is a necessarily a basic right for all. As a poor rural village, we have no means of acquiring money for the constructional materials to build a water filtration system. We wish to use this platform to ask for your help and generosity. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated, not only will you bring good health and longevity to our community, but also ensure the quality of life for generations to come.
