Hello, Changemakers!
You might have heard the terms: toxic productivity and hustle culture. Especially during the pandemic, it’s easy to feel unproductive even if we have been doing a lot of activities from home, or feel like there isn’t enough time in the day to do everything at once!
But, did you know that these two terms are different? Let's discuss the differences together!
Toxic Productivity
What is Toxic Productivity? To put it simply, toxic productivity is an unhealthy desire for our physical and mental health to be productive all the time, no matter what. Moreover, toxic productivity can make us feel guilty and very unproductive when we’ve accomplished what needs to be accomplished already. We always tend to think that we are not doing enough.
When toxic productivity dominates our lives, you tend to focus on the things you have not done yet, instead of the things you have actually achieved. When we are excessively productive, it poses a risk to both our mental and physical health.
Hustle Culture
Meanwhile, the hustle culture is a phenomenon that occurs when a person has the motivation to achieve success by dedicating and prioritizing his/her life to workThe hustle culture lifestyle can damage the balance of life and work or what we call the work-life balance and ultimately has a negative impact on mental and emotional health. This is usually due to the demands of life's necessities or due to external factors from stories of successful people which ultimately make a person want to work harder in order to get maximum results.
