Bali Kindness is a social movement that aims to remind people about universal core values and encourage them to act accordingly. As we are based in Bali, we start with using Balinese core values that are universal in nature. We start, show, and share positivity through any act of kindness which are the reflection of those values. Our team consists of three young lecturers based in the Northern part of Bali, Singaraja. We are Dewa Ayu Puteri Handayani (Puteri), Ratih Ayu Apsari (Ratih), and Dewa Gede Firstia Wirabrata (Dewa). We are about 27-29 years old. Our backgrounds are Psychology and Education. We realize that in order to solve complex problems in our society, such as conflicts, violence, intolerance, etc, we need to look at the root that underlies behaviors, which is the value. Through all of our activities and products, we strive to spread positivity embedded in those values. Our movement is divided into several activities, including social media post, support group, massive action, and product development. - Social media post: we will post positive stories and activities through social media, mainly instagram and facebook. We target individuals who have social media accounts. Our objective is not only for them to see the posts, but also to help us spread this positivity by sharing those posts from their accounts. We will also encourage people to share their own positive stories or activities on social media. - Support group: we are trying to help people psychologically, especially in developing their confidence and strength when facing major life crisis, for example students who have learning problems and mothers with disabled children. We will make a group of max 10 people with the same problems, then we guide them to solve their problems through sharing, FGD, counselling, and training. By simply listening to other people’s story and knowing that they are not alone in facing that problem will help them gain confidence and find solutions to their problems. - Massive action: we will try to engage as many people as we can to help us spread positivity to other people through simple and massive activities, such as beach cleanups, giveaways, exhibitions, etc. From this we can inspire people by giving real examples to them. The more people participated in our activities, the more positive impacts we make to the society. - Product development: We produce eco-friendly products such as tote bag, cutlery sets, mugs, tumblers, lunch boxes, aromatherapy freshener, etc. to encourage a positive lifestyle. For now, we begin with producing folded-tote-bag with keychain which can be used as shopping bag to reduce the use of plastics. Our products are special because they function as value-transmitting strategy, meaning that in every product that we develop, we attach core values through symbols and words. These products can be part of their identity since they have values attached to it. Before officially named Bali Kindness, we had done a number of social activities. After 3 years of successful impacts, we saw the need to give the name to our organization. Back in 2016, we initiated a voluntary teaching for elementary school students in suburb area of Buleleng-Bali since 2016 and asked our university students to join the event. From the experience of coordinating a voluntary teaching project, we gain benefit in two main aspects: (1) the children we help to learn are getting extra lesson and (2) the voluntary teachers got chance to learn how to teach and share an unconditional love to others. We started the program with about 20 university students as volunteer and now the number has reach more than 100. Another activity we did was a free sharing session about self-love, diversity and tolerance, scholarship, learning tips, time management and after graduation life to young people to share positive thoughts. We did the discussion in face to face meeting and online through social media. Besides that, we involved in a number of voluntary projects, such as teaching in disability foundation, helping underprivileged children and elderlies and beach cleaning. Success for us is when we constantly repeat a positive action and get one more follower every time we do it. We commit to persuade others by our real examples. We are highly educated, committed, and innovative young individuals who are brave to take a part in making the world a better place. We saw the urgency to bring back human to the basic from a lack of internalization of universal core values which create chaos in nature and society. We did a thorough need analysis of the problems that arise during the preliminary activities we mentioned previously. The findings become a foundation to achieve the goal of this organization. Hence, we have a strong background to continue the goodwill and together we will be able to embrace wider scale of people and life aspects. We also make adjustment in our entrepreneurship area by creating a product that support the whole ideas of Bali Kindness and strongly relevant with the current condition and challenge in society. We are optimistic that our social movement will have a powerful global impact.
